Friday 3/8/2007: a day at the beach at the Maroochydore Surf Club. On the agenda, some swimming under the watchful eye of the lifeguards, some volleyball, a siesta, lunch and lots of water...we should be ready to deal with the oh-so-difficult weekend coming up...

Au programme d'une de nos journees decouvertes: Le parc d'attractions d'Aussie World. L'ayant rien que pour nous, nous avons pu profiter de tous les maneges. Ensuite, nous sommes partis a la recherche des opales pour en remplir nos sacs. Apres toutes ces aventures, nous avions besoin de reprendre des forces, donc direction les champs de fraises pour une cueillette en compagnie d'Ole.

On the programme for one of our days out, the "Aussie World" theme park. Having it all to ourselves, we were able to make the most of all the rides. Then, we went in search of some opals to fill our bags with. After all this excitement, we needed to get our strength back, so off we went to the strawberry fields for some "pick-your-own" in the company of Ole.

Dimanche soir, Big Brother, le reality-show australien s’est déroulé près de Brisbane devant des centaines de personnes… dont trois françaises en touristes !

Sunday evening, Big Brother, the Australian reality show took place near Brisbane in front of hundreds of people… including three French tourists.

Eumundi Markets and Noosa National Park

Eumundi Markets: Un marche geant ou pleins de petits marchands nous vantent les merites de leurs produits. Fruits, legumes, bijoux, et specialites australiennes sont au rendez-vous. Noosa National Park: Parc national construit en 1939 qui protege les plus belles creatures au monde.

Eumundi Markets: A big market where a lot of little stallholders try to sell us their produce. Fruit, vegetables, jewellery and typically Australian items are there. Noosa National Park: A national park created in 1939 which protects the most beautiful animals in the world.

Katini Yamaoka a battu trois records d'athletisme a l' "Athletics Carnival" vendredi dernier. Il s'agit du 100 metres, 400 metres et saut en hauteur. Elle est dans la maison "Bradman" qui a d'ailleurs gagne l'Athletics Carnival. L'air vivifiant du Cantal n'y est pas pour rien!

Katini Yamaoka beat three athlectics records at the Athletics Carnival last Friday. She ran the 100 metres, the 400 metres and did the high jump. She's in Bradman House which ended up winning the Carnival. The revitalising air of the Cantal must have something to do with it!

Les quatre maisons de la SCGS se sont affrontees lors d'une journee entierement consacree au sport. Les eleves, tous deguises, se sont essayes aux saut en hauteur, lancer du disque, lancer du poids et a la course (100m, 200m, relais, etc.). Apres une telle competition, c'est finalement la maison verte (Bradman) qui a gagne!

The four houses at SCGS confronted each other during a day that was entirely devoted to sport. The students, who were all wearing fancy dress, did the high jump, the discus, the shot put and running (100m, 200m, the relay, etc.). After such a hard competition, the green house (Bradman) ended up winning.

"Hello everybody,

My name is Remi. I'm a philosophy teacher.

We all come from Aurillac, a town in the middle of France. It's a small town in the mountains. The specialities are cheese, wine and of course... Rugby.

We all travelled 20000 kms during 24 hours to get here but we are pleased we did. Your school is really nice not just because of the site but because of the people. You have all been really kind and welcoming. Thank you for that and a special thanks to Mrs. Guild who has done so much for us.

We really hope that we can do the same for some of you, so do come over and stay with us! Why not come over in September or October and watch France win the World Cup!

The Assembly

Tous les mardis matins nous assistons ainsi que tous les eleves et tous les professeurs a l'assembly! Chacun apporte sa chaise et se regroupe dans la cour. L'assembly commence par l'hymne national australien ou tout le monde doit se lever et regarder la montee du drapeau. Le proviseur et certains professeurs annoncent les nouvelles de la semaine. Nous y avons ete officiellement presentes mardi dernier et nous avons chacun recu un pin's de l'ecole.

Every Tuesday morning we go with all the students and all the teachers to the assembly. Each person brings his or her own chair and sits together in the playground. The assembly begins with the Australian national anthem when everybody must stand up and watch the flag being raised. The principal and some teachers give the news of the week. We were officially introduced last Tuesday and we each received a SCGS badge.

QUESTION : Quel est le sport prefere des Australiens ?
REPONSE : Le football australien !! …bien sur!
En Australie, c’est le sport national. C’est pour ca que Ole n’a pas pu s’empecher de prendre la pose sur ce ballon typique qui fait tant frissonner les Australiens.
Le football australien n’est quand meme pas le seul sport pratique par les Australiens, ils aiment aussi jouer au tennis qui leur demande beaucoup d’heures de travail et d’endurance. Le netball est tres pratique par les jeunes filles ; c’est un sport tres semblable au basketball.
Sans oublier : le hockey sur gazon (le temps n’etant pas vraiment favorable pour la glace…!), le fitness, et bien sur le surf que tous les Australiens pratiquent avec grand plaisir !

QUESTION: What is Australians' favourite sport?
ANSWER: Australian Football, of course!
In Australia, it's the national sport. That's why Ole couldn't stop herself from posing on this ball that Australians go so crazy about.
Australian Football isn't however the only sport played by Australians; they love playing tennis too, which demands many hours of hard work. Netball is also played a lot by the girls; this is a sport that is a bit like basketball. And we mustn't forget grass hockey (the weather isn't very ideal for ice hockey!) and of course surfing too - all Australians just love this!

A Sunshine Coast Grammar School, les eleves portent des uniformes !!Uniformes strictes et obligatoires pour tous, nous y participons aussi en portant le polo de l'ecole.Tenues, la plus part du temps, sombre et jupe peu a la mode.

At Sunshine Coast Grammar School (SCGS), pupils wear uniform !!Strict and compulsory uniforms for everybody, we take part too by wearing the school's polo shirt.Clothes are often dark and skirts are not very fashionable.

Fishing!

Dimanche apres-midi, j’ai peche. Le canal est juste sous le jardin, donc on peut pecher de la maison. Pendant que nous attendions qu’un poisson ne vienne, une sorte d’aigrette grise appelée « crane » est venue dans le jardin. Elle s’est approchee de nous lui avons donne a manger. C’etait tres etonnant ! En France, on ne peut nourrir que des pigeons…

On Sunday afternoon, I fished. The canal is just at the bottom of the garden, so we can fish from the home. When we were waiting for a fish, a crane came in the garden. It came up to us and we fed it. It was very odd! In France we just can feed pigeons…

Can you find Ole among these numerous shells, rocks, hot sand and high waves?...Indeed, Australia has a lot of heavenly beaches which just want to be seen.

Quand on va au "Zoo australien" il y a un spectacle a ne pas manquer; c'est celui des crocodiles dans le 'Crocosium'. La, nous pouvons voir ces mastodontes de trois metres avaler des
kilogrammes de viandes.

When we go to "Australia Zoo" there is a show that mustn't be missed; it's the 'Crocodile Show' in the 'Crocosium'. Here we can watch these three metre monsters swallow kilogrammes of meat.

Le pelican sauvage venant du canal pres des habitations n`est pas farouche, il est docile. En effet on a pu l`approcher et lui donner a manger.

The wild pelican coming from the canal near the settlements isn`t shy, it is docile. Indeed we could move near it and feed it.

The Four School Houses

Dans l'ecole Sunshine Coast Grammar School, il y a quatre maisons dont les noms sont ceux de celebres australiens: Bradman house, Chisholm house, Lawson house, and Sturt house. A chaque maison correspond une couleur. La couleur de la maison de Bradman est le vert et represente la pelouse sur laquelle le joueur de cricket Donald Bradman jouait. La mascotte est le Bulldog. La couleur de la maison de Chisholm est le bleu royal et la mascotte est le Chef. La couleur de la maisom de Lawson est le rouge fonce (bordeaux) et la mascotte est l'Aigle. La couleur de la maison de Sturt est le jaune et la mascotte est le leopard.Quand un eleve s'inscrit a l'ecole il est automatiquement envoye dans une maison.

In the Sunshine Coast Grammar School, there are 4 houses. They are named after famous Australian people : Bradman house, Chisholm house, Lawson house, and Sturt house.We have a special colour for each house. Bradman House's colour is green representing the cricket green on which Sir Donald Bradman played. The mascot is the bulldog. Chisholm House's colour is royal blue and the mascot is the Chief. Lawson House's colour is maroon and the mascot is the Hawk.Sturt House's colour is yellow and the mascot is the leopard. When a student comes to school he's automatically sent to a House.

Voici Kiara, Aimee, Gen Gen (Genevieve) !! Ce sont nos "guides". Elles nous montrent tout, nous expliquent tout et on les suit partout : en maths, en anglais, en art...Kiara apprend le francais, elle et Aimee sont venues en France a Aurillac il y a deux ans. Caroline est hebergee chez Gen Gen !

Here is Kiara, Aimee, Gen Gen ( Genevieve)!! They are our "guides". They show us everything, explain us everything and we follow them everywhere: in Mathematics, in English, in Art... Kiara learns French, she and Aimee came to France in Aurillac two years ago. Caroline is staying at Gen Gen's home.
